On August 17, 2003, KTEH 54 San Jose, CA/KCAH 25 Watsonville, CA http://www.kteh.org/ presented the US premiere of the BBV http://www.bbvonline.co.uk/ sci-fi stories The Airzone Solution & Auton. If KTEH raises enough money between that broadcast and an encore August 22nd at 11:30PM, they plan to enter into a contract to be the US distributor of the BBV stories, offering them to all interested public TV stations. Following the broadcast on Sunday, Ken Patterson of KTEH sent this notice out to KTEH's sci-fi mailing list http://groups.yahoo.com/group/kteh-sci-fi/ : Not a complete dissappointment, but not as strong as we hoped. We made about 80% of our target. If we can do well on the Friday repeat we might be able to pull this one off. So... If you were watching Stephen King, Charmed or that documentary on Nefertitti instead then make sure you call in on Friday. AirZone starts at 11:30pm (right after Kavanagh QC) with Auton at 1:00am. This isn't just a vote of confidence for the BBV package. This is a vote of confidence for Sci-Fi programming on KTEH in general. We desparately need to get through our current fiscal year (which ends in September) If we can't do that, then cuts in programming will occurr (which I don't like at all...) and the non PBS fare is going to be the first to go. I really would like to see the BBV deal happen. It's the shot in the arm Sci-FI night needs to get going again. If you have friends and family who also like Sci-Fi on KTEH, but aren't on this list - let them know about the repeat airing on Friday. Well, enough of the pitching for one night... Time to go home, get some sleep and come to work tomorrow morning. Fans of Joey Reynolds (aka Joey Donovan) and his Sci-Fi Overdrive show (with periodic inclusions of American Who material) have another station to listen to his show on. WPLC AM1050 Silver Spring, MD (Washington, DC) is now a 24 hour affiliate of the Business Talk Radio network. Warning - their night power is currently just 44 watts, so most of the DC area (even the sections that get WPLC in the daytime) will not be able to tune into Joey's show just yet. |
